Interventional Oncology (Cancer Treatment)

At Nuffield Vascular and Interventional Radiology, we leverage advancements in interventional oncology alongside Dr Suresh Babu. Committed to delivering effective and precise treatments, our team is dedicated to supporting you in the fight against cancer.

An Overview of Interventional Oncology

Interventional oncology is an innovative and evolving field of cancer care focused on the diagnosis and treatment of various tumours using minimally invasive techniques.

At our clinic, we offer a range of advanced interventional oncology procedures to provide effective and targeted care.

Interventional Oncology Procedures

  • Biopsy
A biopsy is performed to confirm a cancer diagnosis and identify the type of tumour, enabling personalised treatment planning.

  • Cancer Therapy Vascular Access
Includes the insertion of devices such as:
    • Portacaths: Small devices implanted in the chest for easy access to veins during chemotherapy.
    • PICC Lines: Catheters placed in central veins near the heart to administer chemotherapy without repeated needle injections.

  • Tumour Ablation
Utilises minimally invasive techniques to destroy tumours or relieve symptoms. Examples include:
    • Radiofrequency ablation
    • Microwave ablation
    • Cryoablation

  • Tumour Embolisation
Involves delivering targeted therapies directly to tumours, reducing side effects and preserving healthy tissue. Techniques include:
    • Chemoembolisation
    • Radioembolisation (Selective Internal Radiation Therapy, SIRT)
    • DC bead chemoembolisation
    • Bland embolisation

  • Vascular Interventions
Addresses tumour-related complications such as bleeding or blood vessel blockages. These palliative procedures use minimally invasive methods to restore blood flow or control bleeding.

  • Pain Management Therapies
Includes injections and nerve blocks designed to alleviate cancer-related pain, improving patient comfort and quality of life.

Interventional oncology offers innovative, precise, and patient-centred solutions, complementing traditional cancer care approaches.

Additional Strategies for Effective Headache Management

Interventional headache management techniques provide an additional treatment option for patients who do not respond well to medical therapies or experience significant side effects from medications. These techniques are often combined with medical management to enhance treatment outcomes.

Interventional options include ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and Botox injections. These procedures are typically performed in the clinic, allowing patients to return home immediately after treatment.

At our clinic, we offer a variety of neurointerventional treatments to address conditions affecting the brain, spine, head, and neck. It’s important to note that headaches can sometimes be a non-specific neurological symptom of a brain aneurysm. If you experience persistent or severe headaches, seeking a thorough evaluation is essential.
